Greetings from Marjorie Kaiser, Superintendent
Message from the Superintendent, Dr. Marjorie Kaiser
Our specialty is working with students who are blind or visually impaired. This tradition of service began in 1900 when the SD School for the Blind was built in Gary, SD. Through the years there have been many changes in technology and in teaching approaches, but the basic philosophy has remained essentially unchanged: provide students with an education and the skills to live independently and they will be contributing members of their families, community, and state.
Our faculty and staff have years of training and experience in the education of children with vision loss. We use a team approach to providing education that fits the needs of the individual child.
Our school is an approved by the state of South Dakota and has been voluntarily accredited by the National Accreditation Council for schools and agencies that serve the blind since 1980 and the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges since 1994.
Use our web page to learn more about the SD School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and connect to other resources.
We welcome opportunities to talk with community groups about the school, teaching techniques, vision loss and disability awareness. School groups, clubs and other visitors are welcome to tour our campus. To arrange for a speaker or set up a tour, contact Dawn LaMee.
If you have any questions about the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired or have information to share with us about the education of children with vision loss we'd like to hear from you.
